Getting Started with Internet mapping

GeoConcept Internet Server

GeoConcept Internet Server map-based analysis makes it easy for users to share information via web browsers. GeoConcept Internet Server
Suitable for Internet, Intranet and Extranet applications, this GIS (geographical information system) is used by a wide range of organisations from estate agents and distribution companies to public sector bodies.

Internet Server STANDARD

Exceptionally easy to set up and use. Simply copy your maps from the GeoConcept desktop to the server and choose which functionality to provide to browser-based users: pan, zoom, choose tabs to view, choose positions to go to, retrieve information.

Organising your data is simple. Your prepared maps can have a number of “tabs” (just like Microsoft Excel) with different maps to view. Some might be simple locations, others might show pie charts or shaded maps and some could have hyperlinks to photographs and other documents.

GeoConcept Internet Server Standard consists of GeoConcept Enterprise, GeoConcept Internet Server Module and a ready to use JAVA Applet to provide your users with simple map functionality. For development kits and more sophisticated java applets choose GeoConcept Internet Enterprise.

Internet Server ENTERPRISE

Ready to use Java applets (no development required) to enable your users to access a range of map functionality. For example, choose a simple light navigator to enable them to pan and zoom or choose the geomarketer providing remote users with wizards to create their own shaded maps and pie charts and queries. Choose object manager to enable users to edit or add new point locations, boundaries or lines, or develop your own interface with the kits provided.

GeoConcept Internet Server Enterprise consists of GeoConcept Internet Server Module, GeoConcept Enterprise, a wide range of ready-to-use Java Applets and Development tool Kits, giving developers the optimum mix of programming power, centralised IS administration & cross-platform interoperability.

JPEG or PDF Generators

Adding static map images is one of the simplest methods of improving location information on your web site. Use GeoConcept desktop software to overlay your own information on your choice of background map and then quickly create individual JPEGs or PDFs for each site using MapMechanics Batch Print and Batch JPEG generator applications.

Improving Web User Experience

Modules for faster, smoother, intelligent browser experience with more analytical capabilities

MapMechanics continues to develop a wide range of modules to take advantage of the latest developments in web technology. If you have a particular requirement, please call and a web specialist will be pleased to help you select the best approach for your project.

AJAX Mapping Client

Highly responsive mapping interface with improved user experience, without the need to download a plug-in on the user's own machine. Fast mapping with smooth transitions between views, taking advantage of the increasingly sophisticated functionality now provided with standard internet browsers.

Flash Mapping

For a faster internet or intranet user experience, Flash is claimed to be slightly quicker the first time it is installed and the map files destined for Flash rendering can be up to 25% smaller than equivalent Java-based files. According to its originators, Flash is also available on 98% of users' computer desktops so the seamless transition between different map views can be enjoyed by most users. The map views appear to simply "dissolve" into each other, rather than changing abruptly.

Fast Compressed Mapping (FCM)

FCM efficiently manages large map databases such as Ordnance Survey MasterMap. Vector maps are processed into a compressed format and then referenced by a single point in your web map. The compressed maps a re highly indexed for fast display and the user can specify which "layers" are displayed.

SmartVector

SmartVector enables more clients to access the server at one time and provides each user access to mapping in a more intelligent format. When vector mapping is viewed in most browser-based GIS systems, the user receives a raster image which has been created from the vector on the server. With SmartVector, the definition of the vector data is sent to the browser and recreated locally, so some of the processing is performed at the client end using an ActiveX plug in. Users can then work interactively with the map without having to download further information or different views from the server.

SmartLabel

SmartLabel places labels dynamically according to the screen view at the time. Moving names if the window is resized, abbreviating when space is limited, repeating names on very long streets, and offsetting labels if there are too many too close together.

G-OLAP

G-OLAP provides On Line Analytical Processing (OLAP) capability in GeoConcept. It enables users to drill down into online mapping data, make their own selections in real time. Users are presented with uniquely created maps and data meeting the needs of each individual enquiry. "G-OLAP" will automatically extract the relevant data from the underlying database, and generate new charts, graphs or coloured areas at the user’s chosen zoom level.
