MM Full Loads Routing & Scheduling

Full Loads ScenarioMM Full Loads is designed specifically to help with the critical issues for trunking, tramping and other bulk movement or full-load operations. Suitable for operational and strategic use, the solution can be configured to reflect the constraints hauliers encounter and their preferred method of operation. For example, MM Full Loads can include:

  • double shifting vehicles
  • staggered arrival times to accommodate bay restrictions
  • tighter delivery windows to meet customer service levels
  • wider overnight collection windows to minimise costs

Whatever the scenario, talk to the MapMechanics team to understand more about this powerful solution and the difference it can make.

Flexible Solution

The MM Full Loads application is very flexible and can be configured to reflect a specific working environment. You can define and configure:

  • Time-windows on collection & delivery points - the time slot during which loads can be collected or delivered. These can be specific to each call.
  • Call durations - detail the time allowed for each pick-up and drop-off according to the needs of the operation
  • Transport locations - identify the start and end point for each vehicle for the planning period
  • Driver working patterns – MM Full Loads works equally well in operations with no nights-out policies or in double-shifting environments
  • Single shift or multi-day schedules - plan a shift at a time or plan multi-day schedules

Integration with IT Systems

For operational planning MM Full Loads can be used in conjunction with existing in-house or web-based transport management systems.  The TMS can be used to provide the input to the scheduling process and the results from MM Full Loads can be exported to the TMS.
In those environments without a TMS system MM Full Loads can still be used effectively. Simple tables or spreadsheets can be used to provide the information about the transport resources available and the transport movements that need to be planned. MM Full Loads comes with a full set of reports that can be printed out, put on the web or imported into applications such as Excel, Access or other in-house applications.

Scenario Planning

In addition to using MM Full Loads for operational scheduling it can be used for strategic work including “what if?” scenarios to evaluate the effects of changing the fleet mix or using third party hauliers.  It is also invaluable in the preparation and analysis of 3rd Party Logistics (3PL) bids.

Full Loads Routing & Scheduling Objectives

The objective is to make the best use of the transport available, be it the users own fleet or a third party provider.  MM Full Loads enables users to improve the management of the resources involved in operations to:

  • reduce the time spent planning
  • minimise overall transport costs
  • cut down empty running
  • push more work through existing fleet
  • bring down the number of shifts required to do the work

Cost Control

Using the powerful MM Full Loads cost concepts it is possible to prioritise the work to be planned and also show the cost of failing to carry out specific transport movements. Additionally a range of different cost components can be used to reflect business operations. These costs are used during the optimisation process to evaluate different scenarios and help find the cheapest possible overall solution.

It is possible to manually adjust the schedule produced by MM Full Loads using a simple “drag and drop” facility. Loads can be moved from one vehicle to another or removed from the schedule. Adjustments are automatically made to the routes affected and the total cost of the solution is updated.
